Radmila.

She looked unsuspecting. Just standing behind the far counter typing on the computer. Having talked to myself the entire way to the pharmacy, I nervously walked up to the desk marked "prescription pick up."

The first time she asked me how I was, it seemed routine. When she came back from filling my prescription, the expression on her face was pity. She asked me what my doctor had told me about the drugs. I recited the lines as best as I could.

She said that it wasn't just me. It was called growing up. She said, "I don't like Toronto either. Half of this city is on these drugs." And I almost laughed. But I knew that it was probably true. But I'm not doing it for a cosmetic high. The glow of addiction is nowhere on my agenda.

She said it would happen in waves. Now, job. Later, it will be motherhood. But I want to be a mother so badly.

She gave me the number of a doctor who might be able to help.

I felt the business card, the thinness, all along the walk home.
